lerdo: (Write)

This is for me.  If anyone else reads it, that's fine.  I'm not making this entry private.  But this isn't supposed to be pretty or well-crafted or profound.  This is just a brief freewrite about why I write and why I must continue writing; I'm keeping it here so I can look back at it when I need to.

Mea Culpa

Forgive me if I've been slow to respond to comments/emails or peer into the f-list, and please don't take it personally.  I'm not intentionally ignoring anyone.  Lately my head's been spinning because I suddenly realized just how much there is to get done before the baby's born -- both in preparation for her arrival and also all of the other random little tasks that will just be much easier to complete before she's here and sucking up all our time, energy, and sleep. :)  She isn't due till Feb. 22nd, but I'll admit there's some anxiety creeping in as I look at our gargantuan to-do list.  The weeks and months do seem to be whizzing by far too quickly.  Not to mention Thanksgiving's coming up, and we're having it at our place -- complete with at least 11 guests.

Hell, I didn't even watch last week's Bones till last night, right before the current ep aired; that rarely happens.

So I've been coming here to vomit bits of fic, picspams, or random questions and then run away again.  My brain is just flitting from one thing to another, never really settling in one place for very long.  Welcome to parenthood, I guess. *g*

There are folks on the f-list who are struggling right now.  People struggle all the time; we just don't always know about it.  Anyway, that's why this Wednesday Smiles post is going up a bit early.

If you have a reason(s) to smile, please post it.  Better yet, if you can reach out to someone else who needs a smile, please do it.  Life can be difficult, and it is so easy to feel lost, alone, and powerless sometimes.  Let's help each other when and where we can, even if all we can do is say, "I'm here, I hear you, and I wish you well."

So to whoever needs to hear it, I'm here, I hear you, and I wish you well.

Selfishness and separation have led me to believe that the world is not my problem. )

If you feel so inclined, please come tell me a secret--any secret.  Do it PostSecret-style if you want.  Feel free to post as many as you want.  Just do it anonymously; I'll do the same.  (In case you're wondering how to do it anonymously, all you need to do is sign out of your LiveJournal account and then revisit this post.  ETA: Or stay logged into your account and just choose Anonymous after clicking on Leave a Comment.)

And if it wasn't already obvious since this post isn't f-locked, we don't need to be "friends" in order for you to comment.

We all have secrets, don't we?

*My previous "secrets" post is here.

I snagged this from [personal profile] witchofthedogs.  Perhaps you think memes are the scourge of LiveJournal, but I promise that this is a good one.

Reply to this post, and I will list three things I love about you. Maybe more than three. Then repost to your own journal and spread the love.

I was tagged by [personal profile] love_kate_walsh & [profile] starlite_diner (Thank you, my lovelies!) , so it looks like I'm supposed to pick 10 people and give them the "You make my day" award.  I doubt the intent of this meme is to hurt anyone's feelings, but I freely admit I'm paranoid about causing anyone to feel excluded, so I'm not going to single anyone out.  Let me just that if we know each other here on LJ or elsewhere, you make my day.

Some of us have only exchanged comments a handful of times, while there are others of you with whom I communicate on a near-daily basis.  I treasure you all because while I don't believe in God, I believe in people.  It's my privilege to share in your joys, struggles, and stories--and to share mine with you.  Knowing each other through this medium isn't the same as sitting face to face over a hot cup of tea (or coffee), but it isn't any less, either.

So, hugs to you all because you make my day.

ETA:  I'm not judging you—any of you.  It is my personal belief that people are tremendously complicated and nuanced.   It is my privilege to read your secrets.  Your responses reinforce my belief that everyone has a story to tell, if only we're ready to listen.

I want to hug every single person who's commented on this post.  Despite the differences in our individual secrets, we all have hungers and fears that regardless of whether we're ashamed of them or not, aren't easy to share with other people.  Those things unite us and makes us beautifully, tragically human.

To anyone who cares to answer, what's your Myers Briggs Personality Type?

I'm an INFP.  Descriptions here and here.  Now, I don't think any psychological profile can completely capture the complexity inherent in each individual person, but I do think Carl Jung, Katharine Cook Briggs, and Isabel Briggs Myers were on to something.

[personal profile] siapom tagged me.  If you fall asleep reading this, blame her.

A. List seven habits/quirks/facts about yourself.
B. Tag seven people to do the same.
C. Do not tag the person who tagged you or say that you tag "whoever wants to do it."

Thanks to not being around much yesterday, I forgot to post this.  So, here I am a day late.  Forgive me.  I suck.  *g*

I mostly post fannish things in this journal, but I think it's easy to forget that there is a real person behind the fic and the squeeing over Bones.  Same goes for other people, of course.   So I'd like to take a minute to acknowledge our humanity.

Please tell me something that made you smile this week, no matter how small.  Could be the excellent latte you had on Monday, the song you discovered on Tuesday, or the way your significant other smiled at you today.  I'm going to try to post this every Wednesday for myself, and if you feel up to it, please respond—here, in your own journal, or elsewhere.   Feel free to post more than one thing and/or respond to other comments.

Why am I doing this?  Because I think it is far too easy to get caught up in the stresses, big and small, that we all experience.   Being able to focus on one positive thing, however small, can give one a valuable sense of perspective.

Why Wednesday?  I figure a little mid-week cheer can't hurt.  :)

If you feel weird about doing this in public, please comment anonymously.  I'm setting this entry to screen anon comments; I won't unscreen any anon comments unless you give me permission.  And please feel free to comment even if we're not "friends."

I'll be back with my response.
